Building the 3rd Istanbul Bridge

“Uncommissioned” investigates how topography shapes urban planning in Istanbul's Şişli district and examines a series of architectural and urban “crimes”—decisions, omissions, and speculative projects that reveal the city’s contradictions.
Through 19 uncommissioned works, including topographical research and architectural proposals, the book explores both real and imagined scenarios that challenge the boundaries of conventional planning.

Some of these projects respond to missed opportunities. Others reframe controversial developments as potential.
Together, they form a layered map of Istanbul’s recent past, volatile present, and speculative future.

By confronting widely held beliefs—about silhouette, density, migration, and progress—Uncommissioned invites both professionals and the public to reconsider how cities are shaped, and who gets to shape them.
